Emirates Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its operations across Africa, aimed at bolstering connectivity and supporting the continent’s tourism and economic growth.
With new flight frequencies to Entebbe, Uganda; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and Johannesburg, South Africa, Emirates continues to affirm its commitment to enhancing air travel within the region.
Daily Flights to Addis Ababa
Beginning January 1, 2025, Emirates will introduce a daily flight connecting Dubai and Addis Ababa.
This move is part of Ethiopia’s ambitious vision to become one of Africa’s top five tourist destinations by 2025.
By increasing flight frequencies, Emirates aims to facilitate easier access for travelers from the Middle East and the Far East, enhancing the country’s potential as a hub for tourism and business.
Daily Service to Entebbe
On October 27, Emirates increased its operations between Dubai and Entebbe from five weekly flights to a daily service.
This enhancement, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, adds 718 seats per week, allowing more passengers to connect to popular global destinations such as Canada, the U.S., India, and the U.K.
Emirates stands out as the only airline offering first-class service in and out of Entebbe, promising a luxurious travel experience that includes gourmet dining, extensive in-flight entertainment, and exceptional comfort.
Increased Capacity in Johannesburg
On March 1, 2025, Emirates will add a fourth daily flight to Johannesburg, restoring its operations to pre-pandemic levels with a total of 49 weekly flights to South Africa.
This expansion aims to meet growing demand and provide travelers with flexible scheduling options to and from Africa’s largest international airport.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
Emirates’ commitment to Africa extends beyond increased flight frequencies.
With a network that encompasses 17 countries on the continent and connections to over 63 global destinations, Emirates offers unrivaled access through a robust partnership network.
The airline’s collaborations with regional carriers, such as Royal Air Maroc and CemAir, expand travel options and facilitate seamless connections to domestic destinations, enriching the travel experience across Africa.
Supporting Economic Growth and Tourism
Emirates’ expansions are also strategically aligned with regional tourism initiatives.
At the recent Arabian Travel Market 2024, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding with the Uganda Tourism Board to promote the country’s diverse attractions to international travelers.
Such initiatives not only benefit Emirates but also support local economies by boosting tourism and creating new opportunities.
Recent Developments in Nigeria
Earlier this month, Emirates marked its return to Lagos with a daily direct flight, enhancing its service to Nigeria’s economic hub.
This addition highlights Emirates’ ongoing commitment to providing premium travel options in Africa, where it is one of only two airlines offering first-class service in and out of Lagos.
Emirates Airlines is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing air travel across Africa, with its recent expansions to key destinations reinforcing Dubai’s status as a vital gateway to emerging markets in Asia and the Middle East.
Through increased flight frequencies and strategic partnerships, Emirates is not only improving connectivity but also contributing to the continent’s economic development and tourism growth.
